Industry & schools meet @Verstraete.team

RTC West-Vlaanderen invited thirty teachers from twelve different schools last Thursday to bring them into contact with the activities of construction company Verstraete.team. This networking session was all about sustainable working, thinking and acting. “Such initiatives are very important for students. The sector is constantly evolving.”

Last year, Verstraete.team received students from various technical schools in the province, and on Thursday it was the turn of the teachers. “Because it is their job to provide up-to-date lessons to students and to prepare them for the labor market, we thought it was important to set up a networking event. In this way we also bring the teachers into contact with the company and tell them about current themes in the sector,” says Toon Declercq of Verstraete.team.

Rapid evolution

Among other things, an explanation about the sustainable use of available raw materials, the use of wood as an ecologically responsible material and the necessary digitization in the construction sector were discussed. “It is very important that industry and schools find each other. The construction industry is evolving very fast. It is essential that students get a taste of technology before they enter the labor market,” says Ardooienaar Wesley Lannoo, who works at the VTI in Ypres.

Verstraete.team foresees even more initiatives in the future where schools can learn in detail about specific techniques. In the autumn we organize the Open School Days again. Because we open the doors to schools, the threshold for young graduates is lowered. Introducing schools to our activities is an important step towards the future.
